Cardiff Council have updated their HMO licence fees for any applications made after 1st April 2016.
The changes see the introduction of a set fee for the renewal of licences required under the Additional Licensing Scheme, i.e. properties let to three or more tenants in Cathays and Plasnewydd. This is £475, which is just £75 less than the cost of a new application (£550).
With many Additional Licences in Cathays coming up for renewal shortly, lots of landlords will be paying this new fee of £475. However, those who submitted their renewal application before April have benefited from a lower fee of £275, which was the previous cost of renewing a licence under the Mandatory Licensing Scheme.
HMO licences need to be 'transferred' to the new owner when a property is sold. Previously, this commanded a fee of £400. Now, the fee is £50 where the property is fully up to standard and no inspection is required or £330 where the property is not up to standard and an inspection is therefore required.
