New student accommodation hopes to raise the bar in Cardiff

Students studying with notebooksA short while ago, we discussed how students in Wales are taking out loans to pay for luxury flats, and the number of high-end student accommodation builds in Cardiff appears to be showing no signs of slowing down. The Cardiff cityscape has been transformed over the past few years with a growing number of student accommodation schemes, and one of the latest involves global construction company ISG commencing work on a £40m contract with Fusion Students.

New Eclipse development to raise the bar in Cardiff

The new Eclipse development is to be constructed on a vacant plot of land on Herbert Street, near Atlantic Wharf, in Cardiff city centre. The development will be conveniently located close to the University of South Wales and Cardiff University, as well as Cardiff Central Station and the shopping centre, making it a prime spot for students in Cardiff.

According to ISG, the Eclipse development will raise the bar for quality and specification in the student accommodation sector in Cardiff. There will be 675 bedrooms set over 26 floors, with a selection of self-contained studios and cleverly named “twodios”, all sharing an entrance and modern, high-spec kitchen facilities, as well as an impressive list of communal amenities, including an onsite gym, large cinema room, stylish 26th floor sky bar and private banqueting facilities.

The project is expected to be completed by summer 2019, just in time for the start of the new academic year.

ISG has a foothold on key projects in Cardiff

The construction company has already built a strong presence in Cardiff, and they are currently in the middle of delivering the £80m+ Central Square redevelopment for the BBC Wales Broadcasting House and Two Central Square, opposite Cardiff Central Railway Station.

Other notable ISG developments in Cardiff include the award winning Cardiff Business School project for Cardiff University, and the recently completed Windsor Hall, which was another high-end student accommodation development for Fusion Students, located close to Cardiff’s Queen Street.

Jon James, West regional director of ISG commented:

“Cardiff is an incredibly vibrant and highly regarded university destination for both a domestic and international student population.

There is real demand for high-quality and high-specification student accommodation in the city, and Fusion Students has an extremely compelling offer.

The Eclipse represents our latest scheme for Fusion Students and is set to become the benchmark for luxury student accommodation in Cardiff.”
