1,500 new homes to be developed on outskirts of Cardiff

Photo of a new build house in CardiffIt has been revealed that one of the largest housing schemes South Wales has ever seen will be developed right on the outskirts of Cardiff, as Persimmon Homes have secured outlining planning permission - with a reserved matters application having recently been lodged to Cardiff Council - for an initial 400 homes to be developed, eventually rising to 1,500 homes, built on a site that sits south of Creigiau, a little north of junction 33 off the M4.

An estimated 1,700 new jobs also coming to Cardiff

It’s great news for those who are thinking about becoming potential new homeowners within the next few years and should also help inspire many families to consider locating themselves closer to the Welsh capital if they currently commute from further afield. It also brings healthy news for employment rates in South Wales as well, as it’s estimated that 1,700 jobs will be created by Persimmon Homes during the construction of the first phase alone, with the likes of groundworkers, bricklayers and carpenters all being in demand as the development injects a huge boost into the Welsh economy.

The entire 1,500 housing project is expected to take between 15 to 18 years to complete, which highlights just how huge this development project is. The homes will be built alongside a brand-new primary school, shops, work offices, sport and activity pitches, and a transport park and ride facility.

This first phase will take five to six years to complete

The first phase of 400 homes is estimated to take around five to six years to complete, with the first new builds expected to be ready for occupancy by the end of March 2019 - so those with an interest don’t necessarily have to be waiting around for too long before making a move.

The scheme will be known as The Parish @ Llanilltern Village.

Each new phase is likely to developed with a total of 400 new build homes at a time, and each new phase will also require its own planning consent from Cardiff Council.

Delight that the development is progressing

Martin Smith, managing director for Persimmon Homes East Wales, has said that the company are delighted that this significant development is now progressing with the creation of a brand-new community on the outskirts of Cardiff. He stated that there is a shortage and a desperate need for new housing in the city, and they are doing everything that they can to address it. Smith also added that they are committed to providing the infrastructure that the area requires to flourish into the promising community that is envisioned, with the addition of the school, shops, sports facilities and part and ride access into Cardiff city centre.

The Parish @Llanilltern Village will include a collection of impressive two, three and four-bedroom homes to cater for a current shortfall in the number of adequate family homes that are available across Cardiff.
