International student arrivals delayed further

Cardiff University main building - Stan ZurekBack in July, we reported that many international students would arrive in Cardiff later than normal this year, as Cardiff University staggered the start dates of many of their postgraduate programmes in response to coronavirus.

We've now learned that many are able to apply for long-distance study between September 2020 and January 2021, meaning their arrival will be delayed until February 2021, COVID permitting.

Cardiff's universities attract over 10,000 international students each year. In any ordinary year, many would have arrived in July or August to complete an English language course, before commencing their choice of study in September.

The news is a blow to landlords who may still be without a full property for the forthcoming academic year, and it's a blow for the Welsh economy too, with international students bringing in millions of pounds every year.
