There’s no station in Ely – it was turned into the Coach House pub! – so the nearest stop is at Waun-gron Park, in nearby Fairwater. Waun-gron Park is an unmanned station and has no car park, but there is a ramp for disable access to the platforms.

Offering homemade food in a relaxed atmosphere, the award-winning Lansdowne Pub was also voted best pub in Canton. Popular events such as Open Mic Night and Community Beer Festival are held regularly.
Ely is famous for being the birthplace of arguably the most decorated player in UK footballing history, Welsh footballing legend Ryan Giggs, and the UK’s biggest-selling artist of the 1980s, Shakin’ Stevens. Ely’s reputation rests unfairly on its proliferation of council houses, but residents make it known that the area is a close-knit community with a strong local identity.
Ely’s incorporation into Cardiff proper was helped by the rapid construction of ‘homes fit for heroes’ who had survived World War I. Much of the land here was once owned by the Earl of Plymouth, who instructed that no alcohol could be sold on his land. The unusual pattern of pubs around Ely reflects this former drink-free zone!
